SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A Victorville man was arraigned Monday on two felony counts of auto insurance fraud.
In April 2012, Luis Carlos Culebro, 25, filed a claim with insurance provider Esurance claiming that his vehicle was damaged by a sand storm while driving in the High Desert.
Suspecting possible insurance fraud, the provider contacted the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Auto Insurance Fraud Prosecution Unit. Investigators were able to determine that Culebro had reported the damage before with another insurance company.
“We were also able to determine through cell phone records that he was not at the place where he indicated he was at the time of the damage,” said Senior Investigator Ed Nyberg.
If convicted as charged, Culebro faces six years in County Prison. Deputy District Attorney Colleen Goggin is prosecuting this case.
