Jury Recommends Death for Man Convicted in Stabbing Death of Charles Hedlund

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  – A jury recommended the death penalty today for a man convicted of murdering Charles Hedlund of Lucerne Valley.

John Wayne Thomson, 53, was found guilty by a jury on October 16, 2013, on all charges, which include second-degree robbery, aggravated mayhem, carjacking and two counts of attempted carjacking. The jury also found the special allegations of torture, aggravated mayhem, and murder during a robbery true.

Pronouncement of judgment for Thomson is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in Department S-19, San Bernardino Superior Court.

Supervising Deputy District Attorney Robert Bulloch prosecuted this case.
