DA Finds Non-Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Apple Valley Justified

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  – The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has completed its review of the non-fatal officer-involved shooting of Penny Trent by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Carol Chadwell on June 3, 2012.

Based on a totality of the circumstances, there is insufficient evidence to prove her actions were an unreasonable use of force in self-defense. Deputy Chadwell fired the shots to protect herself from what she perceived to be an immediate danger.
