DA Finds Non-Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Lucerne Valley Justified

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  – The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has completed its review of the non-fatal officer-involved shooting of a dog and the subsequent minor injury to Lena Summer Winn, 29, of Lucerne Valley, by Narcotics/California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team Deputy Kevin Warner on Dec. 1, 2011.

Based on the review of the available materials, the shooting of a dog, and the injury to Winn by Deputy Warner was justified. Warner acted lawfully and in defense of himself and others against a dog on the attack. Furthermore, the injury to Winn was collateral and unintentional to the shooting of the dog.
