SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A Big Bear Lake man has been arrested with one misdemeanor count of Doing Business as an Uninsured Employer following an investigation conducted by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, Workers’ Compensation Insurance Fraud Unit.
On Aug. 12, 2014, enforcement representatives with the State of California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) submitted a criminal case to the District Attorney’s Office alleging 38-year-old Brandon Scott Beede—who owns and operates Big Bear Lake-based Beede Construction—had failed to maintain workers’ compensation insurance for his employees.
After further investigation, criminal charges (click here to download a copy of the complaint) were filed against Beede and a warrant in the amount of $10,000 was issued by a San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge.
According to Senior Investigator Jose Guzman, who is assigned to the case, on Sept. 16, Beede was arrested at a construction job site located in the City of Big Bear Lake. Arraignment is scheduled Nov. 19 at the San Bernardino Justice Center. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Scott Byrd.
“Unfortunately, this is the type of behavior that not only puts workers at risk should they be injured on the job, but it also chips away at the livelihood of those business owners who follow the law,” said Byrd. “By cutting corners, dishonest business owners are able to often underbid the honest contractors.”
