Deputy District Attorney Teresa Smith Honored for Her Work with Prosecuting Child Abusers

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  – Deputy District Attorney Teresa Smith was recognized Thursday at the 16th Annual “Shine a Light” on Child Abuse Awards Breakfast for her commitment to child victims and her role as a Deputy District Attorney in the Valley Division Family Violence Unit.

The annual event, hosted by Children’s Network, is held at the end of March as a kick-off for Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month in April.

Deputy District Attorney Smith has been employed as a prosecutor since 2005. In 2008, she was assigned to the Family Violence Unit where she handles serious cases of child physical and sexual abuse.

According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Clark Hansen, who oversees the Valley Division, Deputy District Attorney Smith works to develop rapport with the child victims so they can feel more comfortable about relating the unpleasant and painful things that have happened to them.

“Ms. Smith’s success on these cases illustrates her hard work, compassion, and dedication to the victims and their families as well as the community,” said Hansen. “She continues to be highly motivated to prosecute perpetrators who prey on children and she makes every effort to minimize the trauma to the survivors of the heinous crimes.”
