DA Finds Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Apple Valley Justified

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  – The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has completed its review of the fatal officer-involved shooting of 26-year-old Vincent Avila by an off-duty Fontana Police Officer on March 16, 2016. The officer’s name has been redacted due to security concerns.

 

The actions of the officer were appropriate and justified based on the law of self-defense, defense of one’s home, and a peace officer’s right to detain and arrest. Click here to download a report of the written case evaluation.
