MEDIA ADVISORY: Driver in crash that killed off duty San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputy to be arraigned

Who:                Yijie Mao, 26, Alhambra

What:             Yijie Mao allegedly crashed a BMW X5 into a Chevy Silverado at the intersection of Edison and Euclid in the early hours of February 17, 2019, in Chino. As a result of the impact, 28-year-old Nicholas O’Loughlin of Chino Hills, an off duty San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputy, was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Mao has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving under the influence causing injury with the personal infliction of great bodily injury and faces 10 years in state prison, if convicted as charged. Deputy District Attorney Jack Liu, who is assigned to the Office of Traffic Safety Unit (OTS), has been assigned to this case on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office.
