The defendants, members of a violent south Fontana gang, were convicted of attempting to kill a Fontana police officer after they were pulled over in a carjacked vehicle. According to Supervising Deputy District Attorney Simon Umscheid, who prosecuted the case, “The officer was shot in the neck, clean through the wrist and in the side. The defendant, a 29-year-old parolee and Ontario gang member, was convicted in connection with a 2008 shootout in  which he fired approximately 25 rounds at officers. One bullet fragment grazed the left temple of an Ontario police Sgt., leaving an inch-long cut and another bullet struck his bulletproof vest.

The defendant was convicted of the attempted murder of a California Highway Patrol officer in Joshua Tree. After stealing a vehicle from the Joshua Tree area, Noland was pulled over for speeding. When the officer approached the vehicle, the defendant placed the car in reverse and accelerated the vehicle towards the officer, attempting to crush him between the two vehicles. Fortunately, the officer managed to leap out of the path of the vehicle as it rammed into the patrol car.

While being taken into custody, the defendant—a documented gang member—kicked an officer in the face causing injury.

During the course of a traffic stop, the defendant punches a female deputy in the face and then flees on foot to a nearby residence. He is later tracked by deputies to a residence where he is found flushing something down the toilet.
